PY10 Roll over and improvements to the TA Agreement 2009

This is essentially a roll over of the TA Agreement 2008 into the new employers to include the TAFE component and to make some small improvements to the current Agreement.

There are currently very few Participation Assistants and VET Assistants employed and you will note they do not receive all of the benefits of the Agreement. They are paid at a slightly higher rate than current DoE TAs but rarely work for more than 38 weeks per year. We did manage to pick up Communicable Diseases Leave for these employees.

The most important change for Teacher Aides is having written into the Agreement a minimum of 40 or 42 weeks (dependent upon your selected option). This gives solid protection in the new structure against being finished up early, which has been an all too common practice in some Colleges. It still has all the other features of the previous Agreement.

  • Defined salary increases including those dictated by the new State Service Award.
  • The option of the additional two weeks (the flexible option is available).
  • Annualisation of salary option.
  • The option to ‘bank hours'.
  • The Toileting Allowance.
  • Communicable Diseases Leave.
  • A Transfer, Redeployment and Placement Policy to be negotiated by the end of May 2009 to be implemented for commencement in September 2009.

There is no ballot for this Agreement as it is essentially a roll over of the present Agreement, and no conditions have been lost. In fact there have been some improvements.

Finalisation of this Agreement has been held up for some time by the employers and this is why we have not been able to consult with you prior to now. The full draft agreement is available below.
