Public Education Alliance launched in Tasmania

Teachers, parents and community organisations have joined together in an alliance to fight proposed cuts

in spending on public schools and push for a new positive plan for public education in Tasmania.

The Public Education Alliance includes the Australian Education Union (AEU), the Tasmanian Council of

Social Service (TasCOSS), the Tasmanian State School Parents and Friends Inc (P&F), National Disability

Services (NDS), the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and Anglicare.

The Alliance calls on the Government to work directly with it to identify how innovative approaches to public

education can be introduced to improve rather than wind it back through spending cuts.

The Alliance also calls on the Liberals and the Greens to clarify their position on public education in Tasmania

and how they would ensure a sustainable public education system in Tasmania.

As a first step the Alliance will run a community and political campaign building support for the creation of a

positive vision for public education in Tasmania and highlighting the risks associated with cutting public

education spending.
