Three/four-term year update

It’s becoming clear that the uncertainty over whether Tasmania shifts to a four-term year in 2013 is causing considerable angst as members attempt to plan for special events and holidays.

We sympathise with this difficult situation but unfortunately are not privy to the Government’s plan or what the new school term dates may be if it decides to force through change.

The Education Minister has indicated he will not abide by the decision of the independent Industrial Commission which is expected to hand down its decision soon.
We will advise you as soon as possible of any developments.

AEU TAFE Organiser Cate Davey and Teacher Chris Harrington celebrate a win for TAFE Viticulture training

“It’s a great result that the Government reversed its decision to scrap TAFE wine industry and viticulture training. This wouldn’t have happened without the joint lobbying by the AEU and wine industry to save these teaching jobs and help secure its future, which is recognised as important to Tasmania.” Chris Harrington
